MOTORISTS faced long delays after an accident involving three vehicles on the A1 southbound this morning.
There were no injuries as a result of the incident, which police say happened at around 11.30am close to the Barton turn-off and left two vehicles obstructing the carriageway and another on the hard shoulder.
All lanes were later re-opened but those travelling in the area still faced considerable delays, with some motorists said to have waited for two hours on the A1M between Scotch Corner and junction 59, Coatham Mundeville.
Drivers also face delays travelling through Darlington, as a result of traffic being diverted from the motorway through the town, with West Auckland Road and Cockerton significantly impacted.
A broken down vehicle at Scotch Corner also contributed to delays in the area.
