THE bravery of children, teenagers and adults killed and seriously injured in a terror attack in Manchester has been honoured in the North-East.
Darlington fell silent as the town’s clock struck 11am on Thursday with hundreds of families, shoppers and town centre employees observing the minute’s silence on High Row.
Darlington MP Jenny Chapman was joined by Mayor Jan Taylor and several Darlington Borough councillors to pay their respects to the 22 victims killed on Monday night in Manchester Arena.
Mayor of Darlington, Councillor Taylor said: “It was important to represent the people of Darlington and for Darlington to show that we care what is happening and to just come together.
“It was good that we had the opportunity for Darlington people – and I’m sure, in their own way – people that are not here today will be remembering and thinking about the tragedy, the tragic events.”
The Darlington Mayor added that she is keen for her family to carry on with their plans to see an arena concert next week.
She said: “It’s absolutely massive and I know it touches the hearts of everybody.
“I’m a grandma and I know my little girl is going to a concert next week into an arena and they’re doing that because we can’t stop and we’ve got to show everybody that our lives go on and we won’t be put in a position where we’re cowering away from such cowards.”
