A SCHEME which offers lifts to parishioners in Heighington who have no transport of their own is looking for new volunteer drivers.

The scheme was set up and organised on behalf of St Michael’s Church by Dave Hilton.

However he has now stepped down from the co-ordinator role, which has been taken on by Chris Enzor.

Mr Enzor explained: “Dave is married to Barbara Hilton, the curate at the church who at some point is moving to another parish to become a priest.

“Dave set the thing up and did a really good job, but said he really needed to step down. In the meantime we have lost some of the drivers who had volunteered when the scheme was set up and I would like to recruit some more.

“If anyone would be able to offer lifts, even if only occasionally, they would be doing someone a great service.”

The scheme allows people to attend church services and other functions along with appointments within a ten mile radius of Heighington, such as doctors, dentist and hospital appointments.

Mr Enzor added: "It is aimed at people who are struggling and who for one reason or another they cannot get the bus.

"The ten mile radius is a general guide and it is also only for people who live in the parish of Heighington."

Volunteer drivers are subject to routine vetting and will have a Disclosure and Barring Service check carried out on them before being hired.
