A MOTHER to a five-year-old child has been banned from driving after failing to provide a specimen of breath following a crash in a pub car park.

Rebecca Sanderson, 35, drove to The White Horse, off Burtree Lane, Darlington, on Sunday, March 12, and went inside the pub to drink with friends.

Less than two hours after arriving, witnesses saw Sanderson get back into her Renault Clio and drive out of a parking space before crashing into a parked car.

Rachel Dodsworth, prosecuting in Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court yesterday, said that police officers arrested Sanderson at the scene.

However, Sanderson, of Zetland Hunt, Newton Aycliffe, walked out of Darlington Police station room where specimens of breath were being taken for analysis.

Ben Pegman, mitigating, said: “She’s extremely remorseful and extremely embarrassed to find herself before the court.”

Sanderson was ordered to pay a £275 fine and £115 in court costs and has been banned from driving for one year.
