AN ILLEGAL crayfish trap has been removed from a private pond after the Environment Agency received reports of a baited box.
The trap was recovered from a private pond on the outskirts of Darlington.
The Environment Agency has since urged anyone who notices illegal traps to contact them rather than removing bait boxes themselves.
A second incident reported on the River Ure, near Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, has seen the Agency remove possible set lines thought to have been set up via a boat.
Six pieces of thin yellow rope had been tied into overhanging willow trees along an 18-metre stretch of the river.
