THE 50th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s legendary Darlington gig will be celebrated next month.

In 1967, the guitar virtuoso performed at the Imperial Hotel on Grange Road in a show still remembered half a century later.

One of Europe’s top Hendrix tribute bands will follow in his footsteps by leading anniversary celebrations next month.

Award-winning act Are You Experienced? will perform at The Forum on Friday, February 3.

Allison Mackay, chief executive of The Forum said: ‘We are extremely proud to be involved in the anniversary celebrations. It promises to be a wonderful night and is a fitting tribute to such a legend.”

Concert organiser Mike Prendergast added: “Considering he was around for such a short time, we are lucky that Jimi Hendrix came to Darlington.

“In his short life, he had such an influence on music and it is only right to honour him.”

Jimi Hendrix died three years after his Darlington show, without ever tracing the guitar said to have been stolen after the gig.

Tickets are £11 and can be booked at the venue or by visiting seetickets.com.
