DEVOTION to developing the sports stars of tomorrow has led to a national award for a Darlington woman.

School games organiser Alison Raw, based at the Eastbourne Sports Complex, encourages youngsters to get active through sports.

She was recently presented with the National School Games Organiser Workforce Award for her efforts in developing young coaches and leaders.

Ms Raw has worked with young people as part of the Darlington School Sport Partnership’s Transitional Leadership Academy.

After running an academy for year nine pupils, she began working with primary aged children to enable them to assist in running events and festivals across the borough.

Her work culminated in a football day for year four girls, where youngsters took on a skills-based circuit before 150 girls took part in a football competition.

Ms Raw said: “The feedback was tremendous, all extremely positive - to have achieved this award is just amazing.”

The award was presented at the School Games Organisers National Summit in Telford.
