POPULAR TV show, Bargain Hunt, will be filming at a Darlington auction house next week.

Thomas Watson’s on Northumberland Street will host the show on Tuesday and auctioneer David Elstob is looking forward to welcoming the camera crews.

He said: “It’s great fun being involved in a show like this.

“Auctions always have a touch of drama about them anyway so they make excellent viewing for television audiences.

“You never know quite what an item will make on the day, which makes it really exciting. “The items are also entered without a reserve price so a sale will nearly always be made, however low or high.”

Now in its sixteenth year and 45th series, Bargain Hunt features two teams of amateur collectors who have an hour at an antiques shop or fair in which to acquire the best bargains possible with £300.

They then have to sell the items at auction for a profit.

The collective items sourced by eight teams – making up four programmes – will be sold at Thomas Watson’s regular Gallery Sale on November 8, which starts at 10am.

The sale of the lots is filmed live with the presenter – in this case Charlie Ross – calculating the ups and downs of the results as the hammer falls.

Members of the public are welcome to call in during the sale and join in the action.

Thomas Watson’s is often chosen to feature on television. Earlier in the year it hosted BBC1’s Antiques Road Trip and is also scheduled to host an episode of ITV’s Dickinson’s Real Deal next February.
