A GATHERING to honour five decades since the closure of a historic rail works will be hosted by Darlington’s Head of Steam Railway Museum.
A coffee morning to commemorate the North Road Locomotive Works will be held next month with former employees invited to reunite and share stories from the past.
The event is part of a larger year-long North Road Works 1863 to 1966 project that serves to archive memories and tales from previous workers and their relatives.
An online archive website set up for the project also features written accounts and images of the North Road Locomotive Works employees.
Alison Grange, collections and learning assistant at Head of Steam museum, said: “We’ve spoken to more than 170 Darlington residents who remember the locomotive works.
“The coffee morning is a fantastic opportunity for former employees to get together and talk about their working lives.”
Ex-employees can join the meeting on Thursday, November 10, from 11am.
