THE sixth annual Hurworth Country Fair has been hailed a success.

About 4,000 people are thought to have attended the event on Saturday which included belly dancing, American wrestling, a Shetland pony display and pig and duck racing and even Indian Runner Duck racing.

There seven different dance troops, about 50 stalls, Punch and Judy, an open pet show and there were 78 categories in the various produce, crafts and photography competitions.

Organiser Peter Allan, who with his wife, Val, and other members of Hurworth Community Association, have been organising the event since February, said that many families stayed on after the event officially ended at about 4pm. “It was such a nice night and people were soaking up the ambience and it was lovely,” he said. “We try to put on a really good community event and I think for value for money it is incredible.”
