A HOSPICE is hoping that golfers will come to the fore and chip in for charity at their next major fundraising event.

Herriot Hospice Homecare is holding a charity golf day at Rockliffe Hall Golf Club in Hurworth near Darlington on Friday, May 20.

It will be the first time the charity has staged its annual golf day at the course. The multi-million pound course was opened in 2009 and is one of the longest in Europe. It has even been touted as a future Ryder Cup venue.

Leanne Hardcastle, events fundraiser at Herriot Hospice Homecare said: “The golf day has always been one of our best supported events so we are hoping that by staging it at Rockliffe it will attract lots of interest from people keen to play the course and support charity at the same time.”

“Every single penny we raise goes back into providing services for individuals with life-limiting illnesses in Richmondshire and Hambleton, so by taking part in the golf day, people will be making a major contribution to our work.”

The golf day will consist of teams of four playing 18 holes of golf. There will be challenges and prizes along the way, including nearest to the pin and longest drive.

As well as the golf, those taking part will receive a bacon roll and tea or coffee on arrival, followed by a two-course meal in the five-star hotel’s Clubhouse restaurant in the evening.
