CHILDREN from 24 schools across Darlington are tuning up to compete in a Eurovision-style song contest in the New Year.
The event, on January 26 at the Civic Theatre, will raise money for the Mayor’s charities and good causes.
Young representatives from each school recently visited the Town Hall where Darlington’s Mayor and Mayoress Tom and Gill Nutt helped them draw out their school’s particular country for the contest.
The songs were chosen by the Durham Music Service, with guidance on how to learn them and the schools will also run projects on the country they have drawn.
The idea of a primary schools’ Eurovision Song Contest was born from Cllr Nutt’’s lifelong passion for international links and the towns' associated twinning arrangements.
Pete King, the headteacher of Mowden School and colleagues from other schools have helped the Mayor to bring the idea to life.
Tickets will cost £5 for adults and £1 for children from the theatre box office.
