YOUNG dancers have received a grant to help them to buy costumes.

Darlington Lions Club gave £200 to the Red Hall dance group, in Darlington, after seeing them perform in recycled costumes.

For the past three-and-a-half-years, the dancers have used costumes patched together before every performance.

But after dancing at the Lion's Club Christmas party, members decided to help the youngsters.

Alan Watson said: "It's good to see the young people putting their heart and soul into doing something positive and not just raging around the estate."

Play development co-ordinator Sarah Small said: "We are always looking for new members. Dancing builds aspirations and gives the young people self-confidence."

The costumes will be first used at the group's performance of Let Us Entertain You at Darlington Arts Centre, Vane Terrace, on Thursday, May 31.
