A FAMILY fete is being held this weekend to raise funds for a little boy who is fighting cancer.
On Saturday (July 4), Cockerton Green, in Darlington, will be transformed into a summer fete featuring a range of family entertainment, stalls and refreshments.
The fete will raise money for the family of six-year-old Mark Hammond, from Branksome, who was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma - a rare type of cancerous brain tumour – this April.
Parents, Hannah and Dean, took him to the doctors after he began being sick in February and were initially told it could be gastroenteritis.
However during a blood test at Darlington Memorial Hospital, a nurse referred Mark to a consultant and a lump was later confirmed as a brain tumour.
The fete runs from 10am to 4.30pm and will also feature a raffle with prizes donated by a range of local businesses.
Prizes include £75 Next and House of Fraser gift cards, a £25 voucher for drinks at the Green Room, in Duke Street, hairdressing vouchers, a Morrisons hamper, and the chance to adopt a penguin at a Sea Life Centre.
