AS soon as homeless hounds Charlie and Bambi met at Dogs Trust Darlington five years ago, they only had eyes for each other.

But the path of true love never runs smoothly and that is certainly the case for Labrador cross, Charlie, and crossbreed, Bambi who were re-homed separately but now both find themselves back at the Dogs Trust in need of new homes.

Sue Embleton, rehoming centre manager, said: “I’ll never forget when they first met.

“Charming Charlie, as the team call him, was only a young puppy but despite the age gap, as soon as he was introduced to the beautiful Bambi, that was it.

“No other four-legged friends mattered.”

Over the years the pair were split up and placed in separate homes but they now both find themselves homeless again and looking for forever homes.

Ms Embleton said: “Unfortunately Charlie came back due to his new owner becoming poorly.

“When they were reunited, Bambi had definitely lost that loving feeling for him but it was short lived.

“Charlie won her heart again and now it’s as if they’ve never been apart.”

Ms Embleton said the team accepts that the pair may have to be rehomed separately again, but the ideal scenario would be for them to leave the Dogs Trust as a couple.

Anyone interested in rehoming them can visit Dogs Trust Darlington at Hill House Farm, Sadberge.

The centre is open Friday to Tuesday noon to 4pm, closed Wednesdays and open on Thursday noon to 7pm.
