BADMINTON players turned their hands to bag packing to help boost Comic Relief funds by more than £1,000.

Past and present members of Hummersknott Badminton Club set aside three evenings over the last two weeks to pack customers’ shopping at the Sainsbury’s supermarket on Victoria Road.

They were joined on a couple of occasions by Darlington’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoress Tom and Gill Nutt, and their efforts raised £1212.39 for Comic Relief.

The club were happy to help fundraise for Sainsbury’s Comic Relief campaign in recognition of the supermarket’s willingness in allowing the club raise money instore on previous occasions for their international tours.

Team vice-captain, Daniel Smart, said: “The hours we put in bag packing is nothing compared to the gain and the joy we get from the tours.

“This time we are glad to have been able to do this all for charity.”
