WITNESSES are being sought after hundreds of pounds worth of damage was caused to a car which was crashed into on a Darlington junction.

At about 7.45pm on Tuesday (January 6) a dark coloured car, possibly a Vauxhall Astra or similar, was on Larchfield street heading towards Duke street when it crashed into the back of a green Renault Clio waiting at the junction.

The driver of the dark car failed to stop and reversed off.

The Clio suffered hundreds of pounds worth of damage and police are appealing for anybody who saw the incident to come forward.

They are also keen to speak to anyone who might have information as to the identity of the dark car, which will have obvious front end damage.

A Darlington Police spokesman said: “Drivers are reminded that under the Road Traffic Act it is an offence to fail to stop and exchange details with any other vehicle without legitimate reason, no matter how small the damage.

“If you have a legitimate reason to leave the scene then police should be informed within 24 hours of the circumstances.

“Please drive carefully and respectfully.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
