POLICE are appealing for witnesses after almost £100 worth of painkillers were stolen from a Darlington supermarket.

The incident took place at around 3.20pm yesterday (Wednesday) when two men entered the Co-op store, in North Road.

One of the men engaged a member of staff in confusing conversation while the other concealed £97 worth of Nurofen tablets in his clothing. The pair then left the store without paying.

The men are believed to be Eastern European. One is thought to be between 22 and 28-years-old, 5ft 11ins tall and of slim build with short dark hair.

He was wearing a tracksuit top with three white stripes on the arm, blue jeans and dark shoes.

The second is believed to be around 30 to 40-years-old, around 5ft 9in tall and of slim build.

He was wearing a dark woolly hat with the word Dope written on in red and white letters, skinny fit blue jeans, a dark coloured jacket with a beige body warmer and black trainers with a white rimmed sole.
