PRIMARY children are preparing to open their doors to the public to give them a taste of why their school is rated highly by Government inspectors.

Cockerton C of E Primary School, in Darlington, is planning two open sessions for parents of children due to start reception class in September.

The invitation comes on the back of an Ofsted inspection that rated the school good with outstanding features.

Prospective parents are being invited to attend one of two hour-long information sessions on Friday, January 9, from 9.15am to 10.15am and 10.30am to 11.30am.

They will get the chance to look round the school and speak to class and senior teachers.

At the end of last year Ofsted rated the school good overall and outstanding in the areas of leadership and management, behaviour and safety of pupils, and early years provision.

The achievement of pupils and the quality of teaching was rated good.

Hannah Connor, five, said: “We went to see the nursery school children and we told them how great our school is and they should come here.”

Jack Sowerby, four, added: “We have a giant sandpit, a playground and a tower which we will show the children when they come to visit.”

Anyone interested in attending the sessions should call the school office on 01325-380758. The deadline for applications for reception class places to start in September is Thursday, January 15.
