DOZENS of paintings, sculptures and ceramics were among the pieces on display at a pop-up exhibition aimed at showcasing up-and-coming artists.

Shout About Art held the one-day exhibition at Hurworth Grange community centre, in Hurworth, near Darlington, today (Sunday, November 16).

Organiser Donna Slyfield, a lecturer in fine art at Darlington College, said: "The idea is that we pop up for a day and then we're gone – it's a chance for people to exhibit their work for a brief period of time.

"It keeps the costs down for the exhibitors, so they aren't having to pay for multiple days and overnight stays."

Sunday's event featured work from 22 exhibitors and included high-end, bespoke original pieces in a wide range of mediums, including ceramics, jewellery, textiles, print, fine art, photography, wood and metal.

It was the third in a series of pop-up exhibitions organised by Shout About Art, which has a growing following on social media.

Mrs Slyfield said the exhibition was also a chance for two fine art graduates to exhibit their work, free of charge, for the first time.

She added: "The idea is to promote artists and provide a meaningful experience to the public, who get a chance to meet the artists and learn about their work.

"It's a real interactive experience."

Mrs Slyfield there had a been a great deal of interest from members of the public visiting the exhibition.
