POLICE cadets have raised hundreds of pounds for charity after tackling England's tallest peak Scafell Pike.

Nine members of the Darlington Volunteer Police Cadets, aged between 14 and 17, completed the challenge in August to raise sponsorship for St Teresa's Hospice.

The charity element of the trip was the brainchild of cadet Morgan Austin, with plans already underway to raise funds for good causes by climbing Ben Nevis and Mount Snowdon.

The police cadets meet every Tuesday for training and also support community policing initiatives as well as raising money for charity.

PC Iain Robertson, who co-ordinates the cadets scheme, said: "Everything the cadets do has to be about achieving something - it's not enough to raise money for charity, it's about what you do to raise the money."
