PUPILS at a village school, near Darlington, are to say a final thank you for the music to a former headteacher who has played the organ at every carol service for the past 40 years.

George Dixon has been at the keyboard for the festive show at Heighington CE Primary School every year since the late 1960s.

"George has played the organ and been involved in 40 carol services with the staff and pupils," said Neil Parker, the school's headteacher.

"Since his retirement, he has continued his regular involvement with the school, and sharing his musical talents by accompanying the children in rehearsals and as organist in the church for their Christmas carol services.

"The staff and pupils all wish to say a big thank you for the commitment, enthusiasm and laughter he has brought to the present and previous generations."

Mr Dixon's final show will be held on Wednesday, at 6.30pm, at St Michael's Church, Heighington.
