THE new season of an initiative to get children to walk, cycle or scoot to school has been launched with a time travelling theme.
Mega Motion works with schools across Darlington to encourage children and parents to leave the car at home once a week and find more sustainable and healthy methods of getting to school.
The Mega Motion team works with a different primary school every Friday during the school year to set up a mass walk, using different characters and themes to inspire the children to take part.
Each month will follow a different aspect of a Travelling through Time theme, including Walking with Dinosaurs for October and a Cowboy Quick Walk in June.
Councillor David Lyonette, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for transport, said: “The response from parents and teachers of the schools that took part in Mega Motion last year was very positive.
“There was a noticeable reduction in the numbers of cars at the school gates on Mega Fridays. That was a welcome sight and made the school entrance a much safer environment for pupils.
“I’m looking forward to hearing the success stories this year.”
