FITNESS fanatics from across Darlington donned on their running shoes for the town’s very first Park Run.

The trial for the new event, which aims to get people of all ages and fitness levels taking part in a 5km run, took place in Darlington’s South Park this morning (November 3).

Run by Darlington Harriers with support from Darlington Borough Council’s Sports Development Team, the weekly event is free and gives each runner the chance to be timed around the route.

Chairman of Darlington Harriers, Ian Barnes said: “The Park Run has been going for a number of years in other parts of the country and we felt it was right that Darlington residents were given the same opportunity each week to get fit and enjoy themselves in the lovely surroundings of South Park.

"The Harriers Club is grateful for the support of The Council's Sports Development team in making this a long standing fixture on Saturday mornings.

"Importantly, we welcome runners of all abilities from club athletes to the occasional jogger."

The first official Park Run will take place at South Park on Saturday, December 15 at 9am, and will continue every Saturday morning.

Runners of all abilities are welcome, but children under 11 must run with an adult.
