A HOTEL is asking Guy Fawkes revellers to make effigies for tonight’s traditional Bonfire Night celebrations.

The Beamish Hall Country House Hotel, near Beamish Museum, Chester-le-Street, County Durham, is holding a free event tonight (THURS NOV 5) and is looking for a special Guy to be burnt on the fire.

Managing director Amy Craggs said: "We are taking a more traditional approach to Guy Fawkes night with the burning of the effigies.

"As we have the birds of prey in Beamish Wild Conservation Centre we aren’t able to set off fireworks, but we wanted to have a big bonfire.

"Instead, we’re inviting the public to get into the creative mood and bring along their own special ‘Guys’. These could depict anyone from the world of entertainment, sport or politics."

The ‘Guys’ will be judged at 7pm and the winner will be the star of the show and take centre stage in the celebrations. It will be put on a stake and paraded with lanterns and drums to the bonfire.
