CARAVAN owners have been put on the alert after travelling criminals struck in North Yorkshire over the weekend.

A white 19ft, four-berth caravan was taken from the driveway of Langbaurgh Farm, Great Ayton.

The caravan, a Hobby 470 Excellent, has blue stripes along the sides and is valued at £3,900. It carries the registration plate NV06 FCF.

A number of items were inside the caravan when it was stolen including a Freesat digital TV receiver worth £170, a silver Clairon DVD player worth £80 and a £200 Phillips LCD TV.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police's rural crime team - Operation Wagtail - are appealing to anyone with any information about the theft to get in touch.

PC Nick Hill said: "It is unclear exactly when the theft took place but we know it was at sometime over the weekend.

"I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the Great Ayton area around the time of the incident.

"I would also urge anyone who has been offered a caravan for sale over the past few days to contact the police or Crimestoppers with information.”

Contact police on 0845 6060 247 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

He added: “If you are a caravan owner please make sure you take adequate security measures to ensure it is well secured and not an easy target for thieves.“ For caravan security advice visit northyorkshire.police.uk/caravans
