DRINK-DRIVE charges faced by ex-England football star Paul Gascoigne have been adjourned for a fourth time after two witnesses failed to attend court.

The ex-Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur player was to face the charges at Northallerton Magistrates Court, North Yorkshire.

Gascoigne, 43, of Gateshead, is charged with driving a Ford Transit van while more than four times over the drink drive limit on February 7 at Leeming Bar, North Yorkshire.

Earlier hearings heard that Gascoigne had 467 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine with the limit being 107mg.

Gascoigne has pleaded not guilty to this offence and also to a charge of driving with no insurance.

The matter was stood down again yesterday after two witnesses were unable to appear at the court.

Anna Ramsden, chairman of the magistrates, said: "There have been previous dates set aside for this trial which have not been attended by witnesses.

"This time one witness can’t attend due to medical circumstances and another has emigrated. It is with great reluctance that we agree to adjourn this matter."

Gascoigne is jointly accused with Michael Harvey, 41, of Wood Street, Gateshead, who was in court yesterday.

Harvey has pleaded not guilty to driving while over the legal drink drive limit at Leeming Bar on February 7.

Magistrates at earlier hearings heard he had given a reading of 259 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine.

He has also pleaded not guilty to driving with no insurance and driving while disqualified.
