THE trade union for nurses has launched an appeal for the best photos documenting the profession.

A competition ‘Care on Camera’ is being run by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) in conjunction with the Royal Photography Society.

Its aim is to celebrate the RCN’s 100th anniversary and to capture the “innovation and diversity” of the modern day nursing profession.

There are two categories to the competition and the public get to vote for their favourite nursing image in the ‘People’s Choice’ category.

Winners will be announced at the annual RCN Congress in June with the fifty shortlisted entries then going on to form a touring exhibition, travelling through schools, libraries, and various health settings around the UK.

The collection will ultimately become part of the RCN Archive, providing a historical record of nursing in the 21st century.

Sarah Dodsworth, regional director of RCN Northern region, said: “This competition will celebrate the wonderful profession of nursing and ‘Care on Camera’ is a great way of showcasing the fantastic work that goes on up and down the country every day.

“The RCN centenary is a milestone in our history and this will capture a moment in time for future generations.”

Judges will include television actress Tamzin Outhwaite.
