DEMENTIA researchers will share their findings with the public at an event being held in the North-East next month.

The event will bring together researchers from Newcastle University whose work is being funded by the charity Alzheimer’s Research UK.

An estimated 35,000 people in the North-East alone suffer from dementia.

The free meeting, in Newcastle on September 9, will share latest research developments and is being organised by members of the Alzheimer’s Research UK Newcastle Research Network.

Members of the public attending can also find out more about a new initiative being launched to get more people signed up to clinical research.

Prof Raj Kalaria, from Newcastle University’s Faculty of Medical Sciences, who is co-ordinator of the Alzheimer’s Research UK Newcastle Research Network, said: “We are desperate to put an end to this devastating condition and we are passionate about sharing our knowledge about causes, risk factors and work towards new treatments.

“This event will be a fantastic opportunity for the community to learn more about the huge strides researchers in their local area are making to better understand dementia.”

The event is taking place between 2pm and 5pm on Wednesday September 9 at The Core, Science Central, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 5TF.

Admission is free, but places should be reserved in advance by contacting Sally Warburton on 0191 208 1342 or sally.warburton@ncl.ac.uk.
