HEALTH champions are needed to raise awareness of cancer in their communities.
Macmillan Cancer Support is appealing for volunteers to help people in Darlington and Middlesbrough as part of the charity’s mobile information and support service.
Sebastian Johansson, Macmillan Volunteering Co-ordinator, said: “We need to help more people across Darlington and Middlesbrough access cancer information and support.
“We’ve found that few members of this community are accessing cancer information, which is key in encouraging early diagnosis and prevention.
“We hope that these volunteers will be able to reach more people by running information stands in their local area in order to signpost to support and raise awareness of issues surrounding cancer.”
Volunteers should be confident in speaking to members of the public and willing to learn about issues surrounding cancer.
Training will be given and volunteers will be asked to be available for one or two days each month.
For more information, contact Sebastian Johansson on 01274 987482 or sjohansson@macmillan.org.uk before Thursday, July 31.
