A DRIVER who ploughed his car into school railings last month, becoming trapped in the vehicle, was over the drink-drive limit, police said.
The car overturned and smashed into railings outside Mowden Infants School, on Fulthorpe Avenue last month, just after pupils were leaving for the day.
While Durham Constabulary initially said there was no police investigation, a spokeswoman confirmed the fact the driver was over the legal limit.
A Durham Constabulary spokeswoman said: “Blood test results have revealed the driver – a 55-year-old man – was over the drink drive limit.
"Subsequently, a file has been submitted to the Collision Accident Records unit who will decide what course of action to take.”
