NORTHUMBRIA Police is taking part in a Europe-wide speeding operation this week.

Officers from the force’s motor patrols and Operation Dragoon will be taking part in the scheme, aimed at targetting irresponsible and dangerous drivers.

The activity, coordinated by the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL), runs from today until Sunday.

Superintendent Sarah Pitt, Northumbria Police operations department, said: “Speeding is one of the main factors in serious or fatal injury collisions, involving motorists and other vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. We’re committed to doing everything we can to make our roads safe for everyone.”

Officers will be carrying out speed checks throughout the week and mobile cameras will be in operation.
