A SEARCH to find a “remarkable individual” has been launched for a volunteer to lead an advisory group for policing in the North-East.

Applications are being invited for would-be leaders to work alongside Cleveland Police and the Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner to chair the force’s Strategic Independent Advisory Group (SIAG).

The chairman of SIAG is expected to act as an advocate for a range of diverse community groups and is there to advise senior police officers on matters concerning residents.

Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner Barry Coppinger said: “The SIAG connects us to local people so that they can give feedback and have discussion on key policing topics.

“The chair needs to be robust, dedicated and professional, which is something we have found in our outgoing chair, Shahda Khan."
