THEFTS of hundreds of pounds at a County Durham car boot sale as sparked a warning from police.

Members of the public are being urged to be vigilant following two thefts at Sedgefield Racecourse on the last two Sundays.

The force said on Sunday a man was approached and offered two iPhone 7s and an Apple Mac pro for £800.

The man told the would-be seller he could only offer £300 and would need to go to a cashpoint.

A spokesperson said: “The victim then drove to a nearby Sainsbury’s, followed by the suspects in their vehicle, a silver coloured Ford Mondeo on a 53 plate.”

While counting £400 the suspects snatched the cash and drove off, police said.

Police said a similar theft took place a week before when £500 was snatched from a woman before suspects made off in a Mazda 6. It is understood one of the suspects was present both times.

One was described as white, aged about 30, of medium build, about 5ft 8in tall with short brown hair and stubble and wearing a blue zip-up Adidas top.

Another was described as white, of similar height with similar hair, aged about 20, of skinny build and wearing a matching tracksuit.

They were with a child aged about ten.
