POLICE are warning against a new phone scam.
Durham Constabulary says there has been an increase in phone calls from people claiming to be HMRC saying they are filing a law suit against their victim for money they owe.
Scammers will then insist the person pay the fee in iTunes vouchers and keep them on the line while they go to the nearest retailer to buy them.
A police spokesman said: “This is not legitimate. Please hang up immediately if you are contacted by 02003330202 and 02033221004.”
They added: “This is a very common type of scam and we ask that you be vigilant and make anyone who may be vulnerable to this type of thing aware.”
