POLICE are appealing for information after two men in a car followed a woman walking along Elizabeth Way in Hartlepool.

It happened at around 9pm on Wednesday, March 23 when the woman was walking alone and the silver or white car, possibly an old, small Volkswagen, slowed down beside her and followed her for a short distance.

"The woman was near Cath Hill Close when the male passenger and driver shouted her over, however, she continued to walk on," said a spokeswoman for Cleveland Police. "The driver is then reported to have shouted at her to get in the car and appeared to be getting out of the vehicle - whereupon the woman ran off and later informed police.

"The driver is described as of Asian appearance and around 40 years old with short dark hair and a neat trimmed beard. He was of medium build and wearing a black hooded jacket."

The passenger is also described as of Asian appearance and around 30 years old. He had short dark hair and was wearing a black top.
