A MAN has appeared in court charged with wounding following a stabbing at the weekend.
Michael Watson, of Osbert Place, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court today (Monday, June 15) charged with wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.
The 48-year-old also faces charges of possessing a bladed article in a public place and possession of cannabis.
The charges follow a stabbing in Reeth Place, Newton Aycliffe, at about 6.30pm on Friday, June 12.
A 32-year-old man suffered abdominal injuries and was airlifted to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, where he remains in a stable condition.
Detective Sergeant Graham Low, of Durham Police, said the man was expected to make a full recovery and should hopefully be able to return home in a couple of days.
Mr Watson did not enter a plea and the case was committed to Durham Crown Court on Monday, June 29.
Mr Watson was remanded in custody until that date.
