A TEENAGER has been cautioned after racist tweets were sent to the presenter of a BBC football show.
Manish Bhasin took to Twitter to speak with Middlesbrough fans ahead of the club's top of the table clash against Bournemouth.
However, an abusive message of a racial nature was sent to Mr Bhasin, who retweeted the abuse.
Middlesbrough fans condemned the Tweet and it was later reported to police.
The Football League Show presenter wrote: "one moronic tweet. Always up for witty banter, just not that."
This afternoon, Cleveland Police revealed thata a teenager had been spoken to by officers in connection with the incident.
A spokeswoman said: "Police were alerted to racist tweets yesterday and, along with colleagues at Middlesbrough Football Club, they began an immediate investigation.
"A 14-year--old local boy attended Middlesbrough Police Office yesterday evening (Friday) and was dealt with under section 4 (racial aggravation) of the Public Order Act. He admitted the offence and received a police caution. We also understand Middlesbrough Football Club has revoked his season ticket."
