A REPORT into tackling poverty across County Durham will be discussed next week.

Members of Durham County Council’s Cabinet will be told about the authority’s work to help those affected by the Government’s welfare reform programme and ongoing austerity.

Councillors will also be asked to agree to an in-depth study into child poverty when they meet in Murton next Wednesday.

Cabinet member Councillor Lucy Hovvels, said: “Living in a poor household can reduce children’s expectations of their own lives and lead to a cycle where poverty is repeated from generation to generation”.
