VOLUNTEERS are needed to help introduce children across the North to the wonder of books.
Literacy charity Beanstalk says thousands of children who struggle with reading or do not have regular access to books can have their success in life severely restricted.
It needs volunteers in Peterlee, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and across County Durham to become trained reading helpers.
They will give one-to-one support to around three children in their primary school for a whole year helping them improve reading standards, gain confidence and enjoy books.
