SHOPPERS will be encouraged to talk about mental health next week (Thursday, February 4).

The Time To Change campaign, which aims to get people talking about mental health and dispel misconceptions around it, will hold a Time To Talk Day at The Gates shopping centre, Durham, on Thursday (February 4).

Shoppers will be invited to take part in activities and talk about mental health.

Councillor Lucy Hovvels, Durham County Council’s cabinet member for adult and health services, said: “Anyone can experience poor mental health and talking about mental health doesn’t need to be uncomfortable.

“By joining together on Time To Talk Day we can break the silence that often surrounds mental health and show that talking about this once taboo issue doesn’t need to be difficult.”

There will be a stall at The Gates from 10am to 3pm. It will be supported by an anti-stigma mentoring group based at the Waddington Street Centre, in Durham.
