A COUNCIL is urging residents to be aware of new laws protecting them when buying goods.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives consumers the right to have faulty digital content, such as films, games, music and e-books, repaired or replaced, among other changes.

Durham County Council is raising awareness of the new legislation during National Consumer Week, which runs from November 2 to 6.

The Act, which came into force on October 1, covers: what should happen when goods or digital content are faulty, how services should match what has been agreed, unfair contractual terms, what happens when businesses act to the detriment of customers and more.
