GENEROUS buskers have inspired well-wishers to donate more than £1,500 to a Darlington hospice.

Great North Road harnessed the power of folk music to raise funds for the Butterwick Hospice.

The popular group devote one Saturday a month to busking on the streets of Darlington in a bid to help good causes.

High Row has hosted the buskers every month since January, with passersby and shoppers donating generously to help the hospice.

Band member George Armstrong said: “We were invited to entertain shoppers in the town centre by Darlington Borough Council’s events team who we have to thank for providing the facilities to enable us to play.

“We decided to collect for the hospice and would like to thank Darlington shoppers for their generosity and support.”

Great North Road – the resident band at Darlington Folk Club – will entertain Christmas shoppers with their next town centre gig, taking place on Saturday, December 19.
