There was another good day for Blaydon in the NEPL as they take an 18-point lead into the last game of the season with the expectation of becoming league champions for the first time.

A repeat of Saturday’s win over Newcastle when they entertain Tynemouth, another side in the bottom half of the table, will give them the title.

Their win over Newcastle was their 11th of the season and they have yet to be beaten.

The league’s only undefeated side showed their confidence as they bowled out their rivals for 98 after being able to declare on 211-9. Graeme Bridge (3-8), Craig Simpson (3-16) and Ben Raine (3-47) destroyed Newcastle’s batting.

Their final rivals, Tynemouth, were heavily defeated by Chester-le-Street after being bowled out for 78 with Andrew Tye (5-10) the main destroyer. There were also victories for Durham Academy, Sunderland and South Shields , but Stockton’s winning run came to an end when they lost out to South North.
