MUSIC fans attending performances by Bruce Springsteen and the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light are being advised to plan their journeys carefully after two major closures were confirmed.

The southbound stretch of the A19 between the A179 and A689 (Hartlepool to Billingham) will continue to close between 8pm and 6am until Sunday.

The scheduled ground works will affect people returning to the south of the region following both the Bruce Springsteen concert tomorrow and the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert on Sunday - a diversionary route is in operation.

Network Rail has confirmed it will be carrying out work which will also close the northbound section of the A19, from Testos roundabout between Saturday and Thursday June 28 - affecting those heading towards the Tyne Tunnel from the Red Hot Chili Peppers show.

A diversionary route has been established via the A184 to the White Mare Pool roundabout close to Heworth station and then the A194 Leam Lane, which returns to the A19.

Before the concert, ticket holders approaching from the north or the south on the A19 and A1 and wishing to park in the city centre are asked to follow A1018, A690 or A183, which are clearly signposted.

The A1231 should not be used for city centre access.
