PLAY began at 2.55 with 44 overs to be bowled and in 11 overs to tea Lancashire added 27 runs for the loss of both overnight batsmen to Graham Onions.
On 83 for three the visitors need a further 117 in 33 overs and if Durham are to avoid defeat they will need someone else to chip in as Onions can’t do it all.
He again bowled superbly and was unlucky not to strike in the third over, when Karl Brown survived a confident lbw appeal then edged the next ball to second slip, where it got to Paul Collingwood on the half volley.
Two overs later Onions knocked out Stephen Moore’s off stump, but Brown then drove Jamie Harrison for two fours through the covers.
Onions struck again when he had Brown lbw for 42 and he also beat left-hander Ashwell Prince a couple of times.
Harrison made way for Steve Harmison, whose figures at tea read 6-3-14-0, which was very commendable considering that he conceded 11 runs off his first three balls yesterday. But he needs to take wickets if Durham are to have any chance of victory.
