CHILDREN in part of the region have enjoyed a patriotic party.
The Great British Party was held at Leadgate Junior School, near Consett, yesterday. Pupils enjoyed national favourites such as pork pies, ice cream, Cheddar cheese and cucumber sandwiches.
The idea was to combine the celebrations of the Queen’s diamond jubilee and the hosting of the Olympic Games.
Headteacher Mark Watson said: “The children have had a wonderful time.
“But it was so typically British that we could not rely on the weather and had to move the outdoor street party indoors.”
