POLICE investigating after a 34-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries in Darlington in the early hours of this morning have now found a man's body.

Police were called to an address in Holmwood Grove, in the Harrowgate Hill area of Darlington, after receiving a number of calls from local residents at about 5am this morning.

Police have confirmed the woman was stabbed.

The victim, who is believed to be Polish, was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital.

Durham Police have said officers investigating the incident have now found a man's body at a property on Skerries Walk in Darlington.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

Mayfair Road and Holmwood Grove have been cordoned off by police.

Skerries Walk, which is near Darlington Golf Club, has also been cordoned off by police in connection with the incident.

A police spokesman said 20 police officers were working on the case and enquires were at an early stage. He appealed for witnesses to contact Darlington Police on 101.

Detective Inspector Kevin Weir said: "We believe the victim of the assault knew her assailant and are continuing inquiries to ascertain what has happened this morning."

A resident of Holmwood Grove said: "I heard screaming at about 5 o'clock in the morning. It went on for a good few minutes.

"I didn't get up because I thought it was some young people drunk in the back alley."

A resident of Vernon Gardens said: "I came out at 7 o'clock to get the newspaper and saw all the street cordoned off."
