A NURSING home matron is on the hunt for a jukebox to give a New York-themed cafe the right soundtrack.

The new unit is on the site of the Bellevue Nursing Home for older people in Middlesbrough, and the New York touch, with black and white photographs and skyscraper design wallpaper, can be seen in different forms throughout the building.

Matron Dorothy Matthews has put out an appeal for a jukebox that will put the finishing touches to the modern and streamlined interior. "We want the cafe to be fun.

"It would be great to have some livemusic going on, " she said.

The 27-bed unit is for men and women aged 18 to 65 years, and it provides specialist care.

The initiative has come to fruition thanks to the owners of Bellevue, Drs Dilip and Sushma Acquilla.

They said there is a lack of good quality care facilities to meet the needs of the young chronically sick.

The official launch of the unit will take place later in the year.
