BUSKERS are not an unusual site on the tourist-filled streets of York - and they are about to become even more familiar.
The city is to host its first festival celebrating street performance over the weeeknd of June 2 and 3.
Between 11am and 4pm on both days buskers will be in action at 12 different city centre locations.
More than 50 buskers, entertainers and magicians will be taking part in the Diamond Jubilee event, called Buskival.
Local cabinet member for leisure and culture, Sonja Crisp said:”This event celebrates the fantastic and diverse range of street entertainment we have in the city.”
As part of the two-day festival there will be a competition for members of the public to choose their favourite amateur busker.
The winning artist will win £200 and there will also be runner-up prizes for second and third place.
